Evaluating News Reports

Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week we are constantly bombarded with news from around the globe. Newspapers, magazines, television, radio, social media and news websites share information with us like never before, communicating news almost as soon as it happens.

Primarily, news should be written and communicated to inform, enlighten and educate. Increasingly though, news is reported in such a way that it influences our thoughts, beliefs and opinions. With this in mind, the responsible news consumer needs to be able to evaluate and understand the criteria that make news stories both credible and reliable.
