Who should you choose for an interview?
Sometimes you might not get an interview for the silliest of reasons!
Imagine that you are part of the HR team, and you have lots of candidates that all match your job requirements. They only have limited interview slots to offer so the final decision may come down to really tiny comparisons - perhaps ultimately the layout and appearance of their CV. In these competitive situations, cluttered and busy designs may be cut in favour of a clearly laid out document, even if the content is similar. It may seem harsh, but it can happen.
Why might they use such a simple method to eliminate candidates?
Make sure your CV is the best it can be!
Have a look at the hypothetical CVs of the applicants below.
The layout and appearance may initially decide if you get selected for an interview or not. Which candidates have the best looking CV? (don't worry about the content just yet)
Which 4 applicants would you choose for or not for an interview for the
role of Highland Wildlife Park Discovery Ambassador. You might want a piece of paper and a pen to write down the name of the candidates while you have a look at their CVs (this will help when you have to decide who is selected for an interview or not)
What do you think of their CV? Are some better than others? Why?
Your next task: Have a look at the applicants CV's. Decide if they are visually appealing, then drag and drop the names into the correct boxes (to interview or not to interview, that is the question). Think about what make what makes the CV look appealing!
