Discover why being slow is the cleverest strategy for sloths to survive in their rainforest homes!

Did you know – sloths have been living on planet Earth for almost 64 million years and included sloths the size of elephants.

Watch out for… our sloths hanging in the trees even while they’re snoozing – special tendons in a sloth’s hands and feet lock to allow them to sleep without any effort at all!

      • 2:15 PM - Wee Waddle

penguins on parade at Edinburgh Zoo

        Please note:

The wee waddle is run on an entirely voluntary basis. It is the penguins' choice to take part, we do not encourage them with food. Unfortunately, this does mean that occasionally the waddle is cancelled if they do not wish to go out.

No visit to Edinburgh Zoo is complete without seeing our famous penguin parade! Find out more about our King, Gentoo and Rockhopper colonies whilst any penguins who fancy a stroll, leave their enclosure and walk around the parade route with their keepers. The parade is very popular so we would advise arriving in plenty of time to get a good vantage point around the parade route.

Watch out for… our ‘Very Important Penguin’, Sir Nils Olav, who is a knighted member of the Norwegian Guard!
