Discover how flamingos may look delicate, but they're one of the most hardcore birds on our planet.
Did you know – flamingos are pink because of the carotenoids (red pigments) found in the algae and shrimps they eat? These pigments are also found in carrots and peppers.
Watch out for… our flamingos standing on one leg. What you think is their knee is actually their ankle!

Did you know – a mob of meerkats is led by a dominant female, who rules with an iron paw?

Did you know – przewalski were once extinct in the wild but numbers have bounced back and now they can even be found living in Chernobyl.
Watch out for… their big, thick manes and luscious tails - these would help our horses keep warm in the wild as they huddle together to avoid the freezing winds of the Gobi desert!

Please note:
The wee waddle is run on an entirely voluntary basis. It is the penguins' choice to take part, we do not encourage them with food. Unfortunately, this does mean that occasionally the waddle is cancelled if they do not wish to go out.
No visit to Edinburgh Zoo is complete without seeing our famous penguin parade! Find out more about our King, Gentoo and Rockhopper colonies whilst any penguins who fancy a stroll, leave their enclosure and walk around the parade route with their keepers. The parade is very popular so we would advise arriving in plenty of time to get a good vantage point around the parade route.
