What could happen in an interview?

I've never had an interview before, what can I expect?

Interviews can vary depending upon the job you are applying for.

Sometimes the interview will:Penguin and chick

  • be one person or a panel of people asking you questions relevant to the role.
  • have a practical exercise like a presentation or talk, a team exercise or even a quick fire test. It can vary from employer to employer.
  • have multiple phases. For example, a first round followed by a second round of interviews depending upon the position or if they have to choose between really good applicants.
The employer will give you notification of the type of interview in advance and will tell you if they want you to prepare something for the interview.

During the interview, the interviewers will be taking notes of what you say. Don't let this put you off just carry on and do your best!

The interviewers will also be marking you on how you answer and the depth of your answers so make sure you listen closely to what they are asking. This structure helps them compare interviewees.

They might record the information on a table like this.
